What is an AI Skill?
Last updated October 6, 2026
An AI Skill is a set of written instructions, usually saved as a SKILL.md file, that an AI coding tool such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor follows to finish one specific job. A Skill can bundle scripts, templates and media, and the tool reads it only when the job comes up.
Why use a Skill
A request typed from scratch depends on how well you phrase it each time. A Skill is a tested procedure you can reuse: the steps, the design spec, the files it needs and the checks to run before the work is handed over.
How to use a Skill
- Paste it into the chat. Copy the Skill into Claude Code, Codex or Cursor and add your files when asked. Nothing to install.
- Save it as SKILL.md. Create a folder with the same name as the Skill's
name:line, save the file inside as SKILL.md, and call the Skill by name.
| Tool | Project folder | Personal folder | Call it with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | .claude/skills/ | ~/.claude/skills/ | /skill-name |
| Codex | .agents/skills/ | ~/.agents/skills/ | $skill-name |
| Cursor | .cursor/skills/ | ~/.cursor/skills/ | /skill-name |
For example, .claude/skills/your-skill-name/SKILL.md. All three tools can also pick a Skill on their own when your request matches its description.
What a Sketchry Skill includes
- Step-by-step instructions and a complete design spec
- An asset pack with every website Skill (animation frames, photos and video), so you can build the demo first and swap in your own files later
- Websites in plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with no frameworks or paid services, checked on phone and desktop layouts before handover
- A recorded demo on every Skill page, so you see the result before you buy
FAQ
Do I need to know how to code?
No. The AI tool writes and runs the code. You provide your content and files when it asks.
Which AI tools work with Sketchry Skills?
Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. All three read SKILL.md files.
Can I use what I build for clients?
Yes. Websites and code you make with a Skill are yours to use in personal or client projects, with no credit required. Hand clients the finished work, not the Skill itself.
How much does a Skill cost?
US$9 each, or every Skill, future releases included, with Lifetime at US$99 once. OFFSET STUDIO is free with an account.
